May 2015 - the pi (π) project - Sally A. Sellers - Textile Art
The Pi Project is the result of a year-long endeavor, wherein Sellers contacted fiber artists, quilters, and friends from around the world, asking them to create a digit on a 9.5” square of fabric. The squares were then sewn together in a long banner in the precise order in which they appear in the mathematical number Pi. The result, almost 1800 numbers, is a collaborative art project almost a quarter mile long.Participants include government workers, doctors, teachers, schoolchildren, astronomers, and fine artists from the four corners of the world. |

January 2015: Columbia River High School Advanced Art Students: “The Youth Have (No) Hope”
The title and theme “The Youth Have No Hope” is a statement by Columbia River’s young artists to show their community that they desire to spread hope and good-will. As part of this project, artists were asked to complete a volunteer experience that instilled hope within their community. “The art created for North Bank Artists Gallery will reflect their experience with their community project. The result of this project is three-fold. The young artists will bring awareness to areas of concern in our community; instill hope in the community that we can work together to find solutions; and finally, to instill a sense of empowerment within themselves.” says teacher Jason Phelps. |
