Picture
"From earliest memory I was drawing. I drew everything in my environment, including my imagination. Everything and anything was grist for the mill, and that has never changed. My imagery still runs the gamut - from a fascination with the human body, to environmental and political issues, the landscape, some abstract, and some imaginary creatures mainly from Celtic Mythology. The only thing that has remained a constant for fifty-eight years has been my love of printmaking.

In high school we made a linoleum print - it was okay, but not an attention grabber, however the instructor sent it off to a State competition and it won a ribbon. Still, not impressed until I got to college and took my first printmaking course. From then on I have been thoroughly hooked. I still paint from time to time, but I always run right back to printmaking. It turns out I’m a process junkie. Always experimenting and always looking at other’s print work and wondering how it was done and, of course always buying another tool. This curiosity, love of surprises and being a bit of a Type A personality are a natural fit for the technical prowess needed to be a good printmaker.

When coming up with my images I often slip a little surprise into the work - sometimes a partially concealed image, sometimes a visual pun or double entendre, and often a frog, or part of a frog. Life should be a happy journey, or at least balance out to many more happy times than the other kind. My kinship with frogs is likely from the leaping that we both do - theirs is physical, mine is more intellectual these days as I leap from one idea to another.

Images of Eve, mothers, women in general are a recurring theme. Somewhere along the way I became fast friends with the Queen of Hearts, and she often works her way into a print. She hasn’t been seen for some time, so perhaps it is time for her to show up again. My motto is keep working and you can’t go wrong. Chances are you can stay out of trouble and who knows? Someone may come along who can connect with what you have to say! I’m hoping that someone is you."
