“Whether in architecture, or purely artistic design, the square is the basic foundation for formation of concepts simple and grand. From the inception of recorded time, the square has always appeared.
The square is not only one of the most common geometric forms found in civilization and in nature, it is also one of the most captivating. My fascination with the square has compelled me to explore the concept of this most common form. By using a minimalist approach to each piece in my current body of work, “Back to Square One,” I am exploiting the basic essence that the square can entail.” Kaite Thompson Chase has been teaching metalworking classes at Portland Community College’s Cascade Campus through the Community Education program since 2008. She also teaches privately out of her studio in northeast Portland.
